Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V)
Although software verification and validation (V&V) is generally associated with large-scale public-sector software projects, any complex software development project can benefit from the skilled application of V&V processes. Per Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standards, V&V processes determine whether the deliverables produced by a given software engineering activity conform to the requirements of that activity, and whether the software satisfies its intended use and user needs. Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) requires that the personnel performing these activities maintain technical, managerial, and financial independence from the development organization.
